Zul'Farrak

Zul'Farrak is the walled capital of the Sandfury trolls in northwestern Tanaris. Thousands of years before the War of the Ancients, the Sandfury were part of the Gurubashi Empire. When the Great Sundering broke the jungle trolls' lands apart, the tribe was cut off in a region that soon turned to desert. Over time the trolls adapted to the harsh sun and became sand trolls.

The Sandfury have lost much of Tanaris to outsiders since the Sundering, so they guard the land they still hold with great tenacity and attack all strangers. The tribe is known for cruelty and dark magic. Clashes with intruders still break out daily, largely because both halves of Sul'thraze the Lasher, a troll sword broken long ago, are said to lie within the walls. Reports also tell of mercenaries who fled Gadgetzan, strayed into the city and were trapped there.

Chief Ukorz Sandscalp leads the tribe and claims the desert as his own, with Ruuzlu fighting at his side. The trolls worship Gahz'rilla, a hydra demigod that sleeps in a holy pool at the center of the city, and they guard the secret of how to summon it. Hydromancer Velratha stays near that pool, Witch Doctor Zum'rah raises zombies from the graves, and Antu'sul, Overseer of Sul, commands basilisks he calls his children. On a pyramid the Sandfury Executioner guards caged prisoners meant for sacrifice, and Shadowpriest Sezz'ziz and the undead Nekrum Gutchewer lead a mass troll assault on anyone who frees them.

Chief Engineer Bilgewhizzle of Gadgetzan wants back the Divino-matic Rod he uses to find where to dig for water, which Sergeant Bly borrowed before taking his mercenaries into Zul'Farrak to hunt treasure. The trolls caged Bly's band for sacrifice, and once freed, Bly turns on his rescuers when pressed for the rod. Yeh'kinya at Steamwheedle Port wants the two tablets of the Mosh'aru prophecy, held by Velratha and the long-dead Theka the Martyr, which he says describe how to contain the essence of the god Hakkar. Wizzle Brassbolts of the Mirage Raceway wants Gahz'rilla's electrified scale to power his racing car, and Tabetha in Dustwallow Marsh wants back the tiara Velratha's agents stole from her home.

The halves of Sul'thraze are Jang'thraze the Protector, held by Chief Ukorz, and Sang'thraze the Deflector, held by Antu'sul, and joined together they form Sul'thraze the Lasher again. Gahz'rilla rises only when a gong at its pool is struck with the Mallet of Zul'Farrak. Ancient Tablets carried by the trolls explain how to make it: the sacred mallet must be taken from Qiaga the Keeper at the Altar of Zul in the Hinterlands and empowered at the altar atop Jintha'Alor.
