How to choose your first class
by Mission, 18.9 days ago
Pick for a normal evening
Think of the session you’ll play most often: alone, with one friend, or with a regular dungeon group. Pick for that evening, not for a raid night months away.

Ask yourself:

  • Do you want to fight up close, or from range?
  • Do you want to heal, tank, deal damage, or switch between them?
  • Do you enjoy managing a pet, stances, forms or totems, or would you rather keep a short list of buttons?

Check the pairings
Forever has nine classes and six new race and class pairings: Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, Undead Paladin, Human Hunter, Gnome Priest and Dwarf Shaman. The Skyborne can be Shaman on the Horde side and Mages on the Alliance side. Our race and class story has the full table.

Settle faction and ruleset with your friends first: groups only form within one ruleset and faction, and on the PvP ruleset your account is tied to one faction. See how rulesets work.

Look before you level
Open the class in the talent calculator to see its three trees, and in the spellbook to see which spells arrive at which level. If you’re in the beta, levels 1 to 20 are enough to feel a class’s everyday rhythm; notice the quiet parts between fights, not just the big moments.

Your first class isn’t your only one
The Legacy System rewards leveling more than one class: every class earns your account a Legacy Point at levels 25, 45 and 60, and perks like Well Rested make the next characters level faster. Choose one to start and keep your runner-up in mind.
