WoW: Forever beta build 70205 is out, and it "should have some performance improvements," Blizzard developer Rommax said on October 3 in the beta forum's Mac graphics bug thread. Rommax didn't say whether the new build fixes the green/magenta tint that some Mac players see, and asked players to report whether they still see it on 70205.
The performance build came out early
Hours earlier, on October 2, Rommax had said in the same thread that next week's build should bring performance improvements. That build is already out: Rommax wrote that it "went out sooner than I expected." Neither post said what should improve or by how much.
The tint isn't confirmed fixed
Some Mac players see a green/magenta tint in the game. On October 2, Rommax called it "still a mystery": Rommax couldn't make the tint appear on an M1 Ultra or a 2019 Mac Pro running macOS 26, and Blizzard's QA team couldn't make it appear on the various setups it tested. Rommax added that the upcoming build had some bug fixes that "might/could fix it," though Rommax wasn't confident they would.
Now that the build is out, Rommax wants reports either way, whether the tint is gone or still there: "Positive or negative tint issue reports that are definitely on the new build would be greatly appreciated." Only reports from 70205 can show whether its fixes worked.
What to put in a tint report
Across the two posts, Rommax asked for these details:
- Your build. Make sure you're on 70205.
- Whether you see the tint. A report that the tint is gone helps too.
- What you were doing when it appeared. Rommax said these reproduction steps are "sorely needed."
- Where and when. If the tint seems tied to a location or time of day, note the location and the server time.
- Your GPU and macOS version. Rommax called both "always extremely important to know."
Rommax asked for the reports in the Mac graphics bug thread linked below.
A crash on macOS 12 and 13
On October 2, before 70205 went out, a player reported a spot in the world where standing still and jumping while turning the camera crashes the game. For that crash, Rommax replied that "all of the reports I'm seeing are from macOS 12 and 13." Rommax wrote that the crash happens "inside the Metal driver," the graphics driver Apple ships with macOS, and suggested that upgrading to macOS 14 or later may prevent it.
