Blizzard has explained how PvP progression works in WoW: Forever. The original game's PvP ranks are back, now with a weekly cap. PvP pays out two currencies, epic gear is upgraded from blue pieces with Emboldened Seals, and each season brings a journey of weekly tasks.
Honor and Rank Points
Battlegrounds and PvP quests pay both currencies at once, and you earn more of both in a battleground during its holiday week. Each currency has its own job:
- Honor is what you spend. It buys your PvP gear, and killing players earns it too. Blizzard has evened out Honor rates across battlegrounds, so players don't feel pushed into Alterac Valley just to farm it.
- Rank Points raise your rank. The ladder tops out at High Warlord for the Horde and Grand Marshal for the Alliance. Your rank decides which rewards you can buy. Blizzard says the weekly cap makes the climb more accessible, but hasn't announced its size yet.
Gear: blue first, then epic
Honor buys two PvP sets, one blue and one epic. To get an epic piece, you need the matching blue piece plus an Emboldened Seal. You can only buy a Seal once you reach the rank it requires.
Specs that were short on PvP gear get new and reworked items. Shamanwowseer.gg, for example, now have three sets: healer, melee and caster.
What each rank unlocks
From rank 8, the epic upgrades unlock a slot or two at a time.
| Ranks 1 to 7 | Ranks 8 to 14 |
|---|---|
| 1 Tabard | 8 Epic bracers and belt |
| 2 PvP trinket | 9 Epic boots |
| 3 Cloaks | 10 Epic gloves |
| 4 Necklace | 11 Mounts |
| 5 Combat potions | 12 Epic legs and shoulders |
| 6 Tabard | 13 Epic chest and helm |
| 7 Battle standard | 14 Epic weapons |
In game, the Player vs. Player tab of the Character pane (C) tracks your rank, your Rank Points and what you can buy.
Seasons and Legacy Points
Each season's journey of weekly tasks pays Honor and Rank Points. PvP also earns you Legacy Points, which are shared across your Battle.net account and unlock rewards such as character perks and cosmetics. Blizzard's Legacy System postnews.blizzard.com lists 12 of them from PvP:
- 5 for reaching ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14
- 4 for reaching Exalted with each battleground reputation
- 3 for the journey quests in weeks 4, 7 and 10, which stay available in later seasons if you miss them
