Points for the account, perks for the character
Legacy Challenges are achievements for progress: level a class, raise a profession, rank up in PvP, clear dungeons and raids. Each of the 65 challenges earns one Legacy Point, shared by every character on your Battle.net account except Hardcore ones.
Each character spends those points in three Legacy trees, Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness, apart from your other characters, so one can be built for gathering and another for leveling.
At launch a character can spend 16 points. Blizzard capped it so new players don’t fall far behind, and so alts stay optional: one character can earn up to 29 points by itself.
The system opens with your first Legacy Point, for most players when a character reaches level 25; a crafting profession at 150 or the whole world map explored also earns one. It opens from the shield on the menu bar, or with Y.

Perks to plan around
- Talented (Adventure): talent points up to five levels early.
- Well Rested (Adventure): a higher rested-experience cap that fills faster.
- Frequent Flier (Adventure): cheaper, faster flights.
- Bountiful Harvest (Professions): extra Scarce materials from mining, herbalism and skinning.
- Reagent Economy (Resourcefulness): class abilities stop needing bought reagents, and tier 1 camping features cost no materials.
- The Quick and the Dead (Resourcefulness): faster runs back to your corpse, and free party and raid buffs after a resurrection.

Rewards
Points count toward rewards for the whole account, past what a character can spend. At launch there are four: the Replica Ironforge Air Rifle toy, the Spectral Bear Cub pet, the Spectral Bear Tabard and the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount. Blizzard plans new challenges, perks and rewards with each content update.
Hardcore
Hardcore arrives after launch and keeps its own record. Challenges completed on other rulesets don’t count there, but one completed in Hardcore counts on every ruleset. PvP challenges can’t be done in Hardcore, so it gets 12 challenges of its own.
