How Cooking changed in WoW Forever

· By WowSeer

Cooking is worth picking up on every character in WoW Forever. All buff food now gives you 5% more XP from kills. Cooks are also the only ones who can build a campfire, and every camp needs one.

Food buffs

In Classic, most food buffs gave you Stamina and Spirit. In Forever, there's a variety of dishes to choose from that each give a different stat. For example, Spiced Wolf Meat gives 1 Agility, and Brilliant Smallfish gives 2 attack power. Eventually, there's a food buff for nearly every stat:

Two Legacy perks help with food. Gourmand makes food buffs last up to twice as long, and Master Chef gives you up to a 50% chance to cook an extra dish.

Campfires

In Classic, a campfire was a spell. In Forever, it's a kit you craft and carry with you. Other professions have camp features they can place around it, like an Alchemist's Mana Well or a fisher's Fish Bowl. Anyone who sits or crafts near the fire for a minute gets the buffs from all of them.

Bigger campfires have room for more features, but each player can only place one feature an hour:

The Basic kit is made from one Simple Wood, the Journeyman kit from one Star Wood and the Expert kit from one Thick Logs. The Journeyman and Expert kits also need blueprints. Cooking also has two camp features of its own:

  • Cookie's Feast140 Cooking. Stamina food for everyone at the camp.
  • Iron Oven300 Cooking. Needed for the most advanced recipes.

Recipes worth getting

A couple of old recipes are more useful now. Thistle Tea works for Druids too, not just Rogues. Dragonbreath Chili can now be eaten from level 25 instead of 35. You can buy the recipe from Helenia Olden in Theramore or Ogg'marr in Brackenwall Village.

There are also a few dishes that give you something other than stats. Westfall Stew makes you 15% faster in Westfall, Sweetpaw Jam does the same in Hyjal, and Goldthorn Tea gives you 15 Herbalism. Alliance players can get the stew recipe from Salma Saldean's quest, Westfall Stew. Henry Stern teaches Goldthorn Tea in Razorfen DownsRazorfen DownsDungeon · level 34 · 6 bossesTuten'kash, Plaguemaw the Rotting, Mordresh Fire Eye, Ragglesnout, Glutton, Amnennar the Coldbringer.

Recipes that bind

In Forever, the new high-level recipes bind on pickup, from Recipe: Plated Armorfish at 225 Cooking up to the level 45 dishes at 275. Some Classic recipes bind now too, so make sure you get them on the character you'll cook with:

  • Recipe: Big Bear Steak
  • Recipe: Lean Venison
  • Recipe: Hot Lion Chops
  • Recipe: Lean Wolf Steak
  • Recipe: Barbecued Buzzard Wing
  • Recipe: Roast Raptor

Reaching 300

Leveling Cooking works the same as in Classic. A trainer gets you to 150. After that, you need a book for Expert and a quest for Artisan. Our Cooking plannerCooking132 recipes lists every recipe and the skill you need for it.

Alliance players can buy the Expert Cookbook from Shandrina at Silverwind Refuge in Ashenvale, and Horde players from Wulan at Shadowprey Village in Desolace. You'll need 125 Cooking to read it.

For Artisan, head to Dirge Quikcleave in Gadgetzan, at 52.6, 28.1 in Tanaris. Once you're level 35, he'll give you Clamlette Surprise, which asks for:

  • Giant Egg12, from the rocs of Tanaris or any large bird
  • Zesty Clam Meat10, from clams
  • Alterac Swiss20, from food vendors
