How PvP ranks and Honor work in WoW Forever

· By WowSeer

PvP in WoW Forever earns you two things: Honor, which you spend on PvP gear, and Rank Points, which move you up the original ladder from Scout or Private to High Warlord or Grand Marshal. Rank Points are capped, and the cap rises every week up to 24,750, the total for rank 14, so nobody can rush to the top and a late starter can catch up.

Earning Honor and Rank Points

Battlegrounds and PvP quests pay both currencies at once. Killing players earns Honor as well, and each battleground pays extra of both during its holiday week. Blizzard evened out the Honor each battleground pays, so you no longer need to live in Alterac Valley to earn it quickly.

The Legacy perk For Great Honor raises your Honor gains by up to 10%, on each character that spends points on it.

The Player vs. Player tab of the character pane (C) shows your rank, your Rank Points against the week's cap and everything your rank lets you buy. Horde players buy their rewards at the Hall of Legends in Orgrimmar.

What each rank unlocks

The first seven ranks unlock the trinket, cloaks and other rewards you buy outright. From rank 8, most ranks unlock the epic version of one or two armor slots, ending with epic weapons at rank 14.

Blue gear first, then epic

Honor buys two sets for every class: a blue one, the Champion's sets for the Horde and the Lieutenant Commander's for the Alliance, and an epic one, the Warlord's and Field Marshal's. You never buy epic armor outright: you upgrade the matching blue piece with an Emboldened Seal, and each slot's Seal waits for the rank in the table above. So the blue set is worth buying in full as you climb, since each piece becomes the base of an epic one.

Specs that had no PvP gear of their own in the original game now do. Shaman, for one, have three sets: for healing, for melee and for spells. Every set, with each piece's tooltip, is in our PvP sets list.

Seasons

Each PvP season brings a journey, the Field of Honor, with a task to finish every week, and each task pays Honor and Rank Points. Three of them also earn a Legacy Point: the tasks for week 4, week 7 and week 10. Those three stay open in later seasons, so a season you miss doesn't cost you the points.

For a single character, PvP is the richest source of Legacy Points: 12 of the 29 one character can earn on its own. Besides the three journey tasks, you earn one at each of ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14, and one for Exalted with each of the four battleground reputations. Plan what to spend them on in the Legacy calculator.
