How the Legacy System works in WoW Forever

· By WowSeer

The Legacy System turns what you achieve across your whole WoW Forever account into perks for each character. Leveling a class to 60, taking a profession to 300 and clearing a raid each earn Legacy Points for your Battle.net account. Each character then spends up to 16 of them on perks of its own, so a gatherer and a raider on the same account can take different perks.

Earning points

There are 65 Legacy Challenges, and each is worth one point:

ChallengesPointsFor
Classes27Each class to level 25, 45 and 60
Tradeskills18Each crafting profession to 150, 225 and 300
PvP12Ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14; Exalted with each battleground; three Field of Honor weeks
Raids3OnyxiaOnyxia's LairRaid · level 60 · 1 bossesOnyxia; all 13 bosses of Hyjal Summit; all 8 of the Barrow Deeps
Dungeons3The last boss of every dungeon for levels 15–25, 26–45 and 46–60
Adventure2The whole world map explored on one character; the Lord Valthalak questline

Most players earn their first point when their first character reaches level 25, and that point opens the system: the shield on the menu bar, or Y. A crafting profession at 150 or a fully explored map opens it too. Points belong to the account, so a new character starts with every point you have. Hardcore characters keep a separate record.

Why 16

A character can spend 16 points at launch, however many you have earned. Blizzard set the cap so that new players never fall too far behind, and so that nobody has to level alts to fill it. A single character can earn 29 points by itself, from its own levels, two professions, PvPHow PvP ranks and Honor work in WoW ForeverGuide · PvPHonor buys your PvP gear and your rank decides which pieces you may buy. What each of the 14 ranks unlocks., adventure, dungeons and raids. Points past 16 still count toward the account's rewards.

Each character spends its 16 its own way, and our Legacy calculator lets you plan a character's trees before you commit.

The perks

Three trees hold the perks, and each works like a talent tree. Its first perks are open from the start, the next open once you have spent 5 points in that tree, and its last perk needs 10. Some also need another perk first. A perk has one to five ranks, a point each: point at a name to read its first rank and its last.

  • Spectral Bear CubA pet modeled on the Dwarf Hunter's companion in Forever's cinematic.
  • Spectral Bear TabardA tabard only the Legacy System gives.

Blizzard plans new challenges, perks and rewards with each content update, and new trees later on.

Hardcore

Hardcore isn't available at launch. When it arrives, its characters keep a Legacy record of their own: challenges finished on other rulesets don't count there, but one finished in Hardcore counts on every ruleset. PvP challenges can't be done in Hardcore, so it launches with 12 challenges of its own.
